Momma Said

Along with how essential it is to have big dreams (philosophy passed down from my grandfather)my mother told me something that I still use, or try to remember to use. She said when times are rough, suck are severely trying the human patience, think back. She told me a long time ago to think on the beautiful moments. Moms said to have a favorite memory or 2 to fall back on during the rough times. That advise from moms is real approriate right bout now, since Ma is aggitating me...lol.

My favorite memories...hmmmm. No, giving birth is not one of them, allthough my daughter is a given goodie. Nor was my first kiss, first boyfriend (LMAO) or anything of the sort.

#3 High School. See I went to H.S. of Fashion Industries off of 23rd st in Manhattan. I ended up cool with the security guards and I did wtf I wanted. I did what I love, all day long, create. Fashion shows, the fashion district, some definate pull, clubs, carefree(ness), Paris, perfectly made egg sandwitches, a ride into the city vs the effin train)from queens if I wanted, grandma 2 blocks away, cutting school playing pool all day, movie theatre around the corner to cut school in all day in (and still pass classes), living off 5 bucks a day graciously and easily, the villiage 1-3 subway stops away, teachers that didnt sweat me, broadway shows with a coupon on the regular, free fabric, mingling with stars, never getting carded while underage, no cerfew, the muse, fresh music, awesome hip-hop, DJ Red Alert ON the radio, diverse friends, diners (THERE'S MORE)...damn it was beautiful. If I could only go back in time, just once.

#2= Is the first time I went to Miami and I had ever saw blue water. I went to the beach from 9am-5 or 6pm. Fo delf. I remember standing in water up to my chest and looking down to see my feet. The water wasn't hazy as it so often happens to get. It was crystal clear and at lease 75 degrees warm. I never worried about sharks, baracuda, jellyfish or anything of the sort because the clarity of the water...I could/would see anything coming. This by far is almost one of personal favorite memories.

#1= My first favorite memory Paris. I went with my Ma Dukes when I was in highschool. I remember the landmarks like the Eifel Tower and the sort. But I mainly remember the little streets and the troop to versailles. I remember little alleys and how everything shut down mid day for folks to rest. I remember the european foriegners and all their help and inquisitive questions on our origin. I remember the smiles and chuckles as we swaggered through speaking the gatdamn language. I remember all the pictures and seeing the much too hyped mona lisa. But it's the streets I remember most. The never too tall old buildings, older than anything I had ever experienced, worse than NYC drivers and the streets. I remember how it felt to not wear my skin color on my sleeve, where I never felt black, first.

Ahhhh I have some beautiful memories to speak of and some to keep to myself. Enough to where I should be able to compromise my foul attitude.

But as I started...

...fall back.
