"Give Us, Us Free!"
~Amistad
Free. I've been stewing on the word, concept, reality (?) much today. Swimming in the ocean, bare skin to water is one of the most liberating and free experiences I can enjoy in life right now (this is the type of ish I do rather than club or socializelol@self). I love that since it is October and the water is slightly chilly but not frigid, the beach here is somewhat desolate. Enough so that I can swim out where my feet don't touch the bottom and I can wrap my suit around my wrist and be, free. Everyone should feel so free within their skin and have the opportunity to enjoy this delight. At lease once in their lives. Free.
Freedom is music. Thank you

Then there is the flipside of free, thus the image above. After returning from my dip I wastched a 3 hour interview with Angela Davis on C-SPAN/ Book TV. Watch it
HERE. Enlightening. But in watching that I remembered how much we and other people aren't really free but just caught in this illusion catalyzed by the daily pacifications of our lives. I remembered in all the freedom of my day (and weekend) those that are not free and in some respects based on the socio-political climate we live in, may never be free. How fortunate I'm am to have the option of forgetting some of the mental incarceration let alone physical. I think of my family incarcerated. I think of men like Mumia living everyday fighting for his life. Interesting enough during Angela's interview it was discussed how Mumia was given an honorary citizenship by the Mayor of Paris. The only other person this has been bestowed upon was Picasso. And during her interview she also stated one other thing. She touched on many topic from the specifics of her trial and acquittal, communism/socialism, the black panther party and Huey Newton, abolition of the death penalty, the prison industrial complex...way to much to mention. My mother called me earlier to tell me she was on and let me know she was taping it. When I got home from the beach it was on from the beginning and I watch the interview with Ma Dukes. Because my mother was a member of the Black Liberation Party back in the day just watching with her was an enlightening experience as well. She told me it was Angela that inspired her to "get involved." But the thinking that really caught me was this. Angela being considered a radical - "that's an identification that is admirable."
