Hedonist Laid to Rest
I'm gonna take a moment to say a few words in memory of one of funks favorite hedonist. I have no appreciation for PP's aka pretentious people. But with Rick James what you see is what you get, the outlandish. Wild and full of the taste for excess, I'd say Rick led a full life.
So yesterday waiting at the dentist office I was reading the "King" magazine (yes I read that smut, READ OK) I had brought to distract me from impending dental work. Flipping beyond the pinup girls I ran across an article bout Rick James. Needless to say it had me cracking up in the waiting room as every one else was either in pain or nervous bout seeing the Doc. When I returned home I found out Rick was gone, just like my tooth, the irony.
Here are a few exerpts;
...ON HIS EXESSIVE LIFE
"I could've brought Monte Carlo as much as I've snorted. I've smoked half of Paris and most of Russia. And I've shot up Puerto Rico and drank up Mexico. I [went through] five yachts, three planes, 17 cars, four mansions, any bitch I wanted had 30 million in the bank. People were disgusted with how I lived. Let's talk real. I was a dumb motherfucker."
...ON DAVE CHAPPELLE SKIT
"I don't want all you haters to get too caught up about Charlie kickin my ass, because it didn't happen."
...ON HIP-HOP'S OBSESSION WITH THE PIMP GAME
"I've written songs about pimps and pimping ain't no glorification. A hoe would never be able to afford to suport me."
...ON THE ABUSE CASE THAT LANDED HIM IN PRISON
"I told the court I punched that girl in the eye for kicking my old lady in the stomach. But all the burning and bullshit...this was a crack bitch who had a pimp. She spent too much time with Rick James and came home with no money."
...ON "CAN'T TOUCH THIS"
"The deal with hammer was somewhere around 80/20, and I got the 80."
Anywhoo, before his death he was suppose to do a project with Andre 3000...Damn. Yall know you will always remember rick for that bangin ass Hit "Party All The Time" sung by Eddie Murphy. All and all Rick was O.C. and out of order most of his adult life. But he left us with jams that will get bumped at the family cook-out or reunion, as well as a good amount of music to get sampled by whatever rapper.
and in closing you can't say Rick wasn't entertaining...
